Illustration Techniques, Week Six: Ink, Part 1

Open your sketchbook to a fresh page and practice all these types of mark-making with just a fine line marker:

Next, find an example online of a basic shape still life. Sketch the sphere from the basic shape still life in pencil and use the texture and pattern shading techniques we have been learning to add dimension to the object, the background and a shadow on the surface it's resting on. Using only your fine line marker go over all your pencil sketching. When you're sure the drawing is completely dry (at least an hour and up to a day later) you can erase the pencil sketch. If you missed class, upload this drawing to the Week Six sketchbook dropbox along with the Week Six sketchbook assignment.

Week Six sketchbook assignment:

Make a claw-like shape with your hand, as if it were holding an invisible softball or a grapefruit. Sketch you hand in pencil, add shading, then ink the sketch with the fine line marker. Upload your drawing to the Week Six sketchbook dropbox - you can leave or erase the pencil underdrawing.
